Top tips to help you drive safely in the rain - Towing Gold Coast - Cheap AZ Towing

At Cheap AZ Towing, whilst we are on hand for all your needs believe prevention is far better than cure. The majority of weather related crashes are in the rain, so we thought we’d compile a list of handy hints for safe driving in the rain.

So why do more people crash in the rain?

Rain obviously makes the road more slippery, that paired with a lack of visibility can spell trouble. Rain can cause a build-up of oil and dirt on the road, only adding to the slipperiness and poor visibility, due to your windshield getting dirty.

What can you do to drive safer in the rain?

Slowing down will always help. If your vision is compromised or the roads are slippery slowing down can buy you valuable seconds, plus the traction of your tyres on the road will improve significantly.

Two second gap

It is advised that you leave a two second gap between you and the car in front, but if it rains this gap should be at least twice that. This gives you time to react should something happen.

Do not slam on the brakes

When the floor is wet and slippery, pushing down hard on the brakes can cause your car to skid, which can lead to a loss of control. Try and keep a safe distance so you can gently press the brake down until the car comes to a complete stop.

Flood water

Avoid flooded areas where possible. You can never tell what is beneath the water and what the dangers are. Steer clear and stay safe.

Defog

Whether it’s hot or cold the best way to defog your windscreen is to blast the air conditioning on it.
